While service to the community has been a passion, especially to the City of San Antonio where he recently served as District 10 Commissioner for the Bond Oversight Commission, Dan also was distinguished for his service to the US Coast Guard where he attained the rank of FL Commander (1999) and received this plaque from Tom Ridge, the first Secretary of Homeland Security for Dan's' contributions towards terrorist activity after 9/11
